Thunderdome III

In the 80’s I picked up my first interest in music. I had this short period when I was really interested in hits in the Top 40, especially those by some cool guy named Michael Jackson who had the dopest shit. He was one bad mofo! I wonder wat ever happened to him. Well after that period, my interest in music was dorment in the early 90’s until one day at school I saw someone kissing a just freshly released copy of Thunderdome III. I was instantly obsessed; what was that for music… In no time at all did I arrange a copy of this CD which went straight into my walkman and never left it for a couple of months. That shit was phat! I was 15 years old and I had found my true passion!

Mark Koendering & MikeyMo mixingIn 1996 I met someone who said he was mixing records. I had no real idea of what he meant and he was willing to show me. Before I knew it he we were spinning records like crazy. We both sucked ass at it, but we had fun, so much fun actually that I decided to by my own records players and a mixer. After bumbling around a month or so on real cheapass record players with pitch control at all I decided to buy a couple of JB Systems Disco 2000’s. of course this was still all cheap stuff, although for a simple student it was expensive enough! Equipped with pitchcontrol and other feautures my 2 belt-driven turntables enabled me to learn myself how to mix. Before I knew it I was creating my own mix-tapes and because I had to go to school in Amsterdam I had a steady supply of records as Attalos and Mid-town were easily reachable and willing to sell me my weekly dose of vinyl.

In 1997 I decided to try to spin some records in a local bar but they had something standing there that I wasn’t prepared for; the industry standard turntables; Technics SL 1200MK2. These things are a world of hurt when you’re used to your simple beltdriven turntables so this decision of me can only be described as an epic fail. I went back to my bedroom and kept turning the tables over thereand I started experimenting with mixing on the computer. This was way before all those nifty DJ-ing Tools, I experimented around with Macromedia Sound Edit. No autopitch and beatcounting in that program… In May 2001 I finally bought my own set of SL’s and within hours I had the feeling of these babies in the tips of my fingers…
I had the opportunity to spin at some local parties but never picked that up, due to stagefraight and later because I got into a relationship and the whole mixingthing went on a sidetrack. I spinned records at home occasionally and made a couple of mix CD’s but apart from that I didn’t do much with it.

Pink SL1200MK2

In 2004 the relation was over and I met al sorts of new people. I almost immediately came back into the dj-scene in my hometown and after a few months I had my first public gig. I was a nervours wreck but I pulled it off and eventually I was hungry for more. One of the people I met was DJ Brainwave, nowadays a musicproducer in a group called DirtyRockers. We hooked up (professionally!) and started playing together at small parties around Den Helder and in bars. Eventually the mixing became sidetracked, especially when a new tool entered the scene; Propellerheads Reason. At the end of 2005 I became unemployed and had tons of time on my hands. I decided that now was the time to go to the next level; Start making my own music. With the aid of DJ Brainwave I had the program under my control quite fast. But knowing how which button to push one thing, making quality music is another…

Fright Night

Nowadays I’m still producing although my tracks do get positive responses from people around and on the internets, it’s not quite releasable yet. But I’m working on it…
