What can I say about Crank: High Voltage? It’s a videogame come to life for the second time. Apparently the end of Crank wasn’t game over for Chev Chelios. This time his heart has been stolen and implanted in a Chinese Ganglord (David Carradine, unrecognizable) and Chev is left with an artificial heart that works on a battery system. But batteries are running low and Chev has to constantly seem to find new ways to give him a charge while trying to retrieve his stolen heart.
Crank is one hilarious ride form A-Z like the first one was. Chev has to do the most outrageous things to keep his battery loaded; from using jumper cables to having sex on the middle of a race track. The movie takes several detours like a Godzilla-like epic battle between Chev and a gangster. Never do you take the movie seriously and it knows that. Like the first Crank this movie isn’t for everyone, but those who liked the first are bound to have fun on this electrifying ride. Like the first the movie is not for people who like subtlety. There are a lot of words you can use to describe Crank 2 (preposterous, over-the-top, sexist, exploitative, violent, fun, crazy, etc.) but subtle is not one of them; shotguns are stuck into asses, silicon boobs get shot and where it was possible the makers put in gratuitous female nudity. A choice I can admire.
If you liked the first, watch this. Sure it’s a basic rehash of the first but it’s fun. If you didn’t like the first, stay away, stay very far away…
