Air Max True Flight in The Wire

Another blink-and-you’ll-miss-it detail from The Wire. In season 4, episode 7, the kids learn math by playing gambling games like dice, and in a close-up of Monopoly money scattered on the floor, the Air Max True Flight is clearly visible. The shoe was originally released in 2003, while the episode aired in 2006, which makes you wonder if the show’s producers picked them up on a clearance rack.

It’s clearly not product placement. The Air Max True Flight is a fairly obscure model that’s never been re-released and was never a signature shoe. Its appearance in The Wire actually adds to the show’s authenticity—it’s exactly the kind of sneaker a Baltimore teenager might have been wearing in the early 2000s.

I couldn’t even find any official photos of the shoe—only images taken by someone for an eBay listing.
