Tupac Shakur

The movie career of 2Pac

Bullet (1996)

Bullet PosterBullet was the first movie to be released after Tupac’s death on September 13, 1996. It had only a small theatrical run in the United States even though it was released a month after him dying. In Bullet Tupac once again plays the role of a gangster, this time named Tank. In some way Juice, Above The Rim and Bullet could be a trilogy as he’s now a full drug dealer with one working eye driving around in a limousine all day. So he’s once more the villain of the story and is more of a supporting character as the movie’s central character is the petty crook and junkie Butch played by Mickey Rourke. Tupac’s role is certainly a step down as he once again just plays a thug, a role he already did do twice and one he can do in his sleep. He also has only a handful of scenes. Next to that the character of Tank has got no dimension at all. He’s just a dangerous gangster who at one point even goes as low as to sticking a knife to a little girls’ throat threatening to slice her to get away. Tupac is being upstaged by all the other main cast-members like Adrien Brody and Ted Levine who both play more memorable rolls. The acting of Tupac is good, but his character just is 1-dimensional and serves no other purpose than to be the villain.
Tupac himself must have realized that he was being typecast because in his next two movies he would play a junkie and a cop.
